Happy Spring, my friends! Personally, I love the start of a new season. To me, a new season means that I can take a step back, reassess my life, look at what areas of my life I want to improve upon, and simply start fresh with new goals and new healthy habits! Particularly now with everyone staying at home due to the coronavirus and trying to adapt to this new change. It’s a great time to change up your morning routine for spring!
With that, why not try to look for the littlest bits of positivity that change can bring us. I know that changes can sometimes be scary, but sometimes it can also be a good thing! And why not use this time you have at home to focus on switching up your routine and changing up your habits to improve your overall health and wellness? Therefore, here are 5 ways to refresh your morning routine this spring!
1. Change up your shower routine
I’m sure you already know how important self-care is and that consistency is key when it comes to improving your overall health and wellness! With that, I think one of the easiest ways to indulge in some simple self-care is by changing up your morning shower routine. Whether that’s splurging on a new shampoo and conditioner set or a divine smelling body wash. Or, even buying one of the Billie Razors people rave about! Which is surprising an amazing razor lol! I didn’t think I would get suckered into it, but I have, and I’m honestly really happy that I decided to buy it!
Along with that, I recently purchased the Mario Badescu AHA Botanical Body Wash and it has worked wonders for my skin! Not only the texture of my skin but the overall appearance as well. So well to where I think I’m going to add it to my March favorites post next Friday so definitely be on the lookout for that! (Be sure to check out February’s favorites post as well!)
2. Add collagen to your coffee
Okay, so I never thought I would be this person, but I am now lol! As much as I LOVE collagen, I never saw myself putting it in my morning coffee. I just find the taste of coffee to be too sacred, so I never wanted to try it. However, I’ve gratefully come to realize that adding a scoop collagen protein does nothing to negatively affect the flavor! If anything, the addition of collagen protein actually creates a creamier, and almost thicker (in a good way lol), cup of coffee!
If you don’t know what collagen is, definitely check out this post where I go into great detail of all of the benefits that collagen contains and does for your body. But not only does it benefit your body, but it promotes hair growth, nail strength, skin glow, joint strength, and so much more! I don’t know about you, but I just love little, easy things, like simply adding a scoop of powder to my coffee, that still makes a huge difference to my morning routine and wellness!
3. Try to add a fruit and/or veggie to your breakfast
Y’all know how great Oprah is! Well, she claims, “the most colorful plates are the healthiest plates!” And that couldn’t be more true! Therefore, I always try to be mindful when making breakfast and finding creative ways to start my day with a fruit or veggie added in. Not to mention, I find that adding fruits and vegetables to my first meal of the day tends to fill me up more and give me more energy throughout the day. Along with making me feel better and healthier overall!
With that, I have been loving breakfast smoothies lately with bananas or spinach, apples + almond butter, or even adding cauliflower to my oatmeal. Don’t knock it ’till you try it! There are so many tasty combinations, you just have to be willing to get creative! 😉
4. Limit your screen time
Take a break from social media and all of the coronavirus updates. Especially, first thing in the morning. Why stress yourself out right when you wake up or begin comparing your day to somebody else’s. Instead, try doing something different! Use this time at home and your new relaxed schedule (for those at home) to switch it up. We all know that we should take breaks from our screen, so why not now?
Instead of picking up your phone, tablet, or computer first thing in the morning, open up that book you’ve been wanting to read – but never had the time to before. Or, invite your kids, partner, family members, etc. to join you in an at-home workout. Additionally, you could always use your quiet, morning time to simply sit with your coffee and meditate. While many of us are stuck at home, why not start your morning off on a positive note?!
5. Lighten the dialog in your head
Along with starting your day on a positive note, this brings me to my next point when refreshing your morning routine for spring. What I have learned over the years is that the way we talk to ourselves, especially in the morning, plays such a crucial role in how we interact with others and the world around us. I’m definitely guilty of critizing myself if I’m running late, if I forgot to wash my clothes that I wanted to wear, or if I forgot to pack my lunch, etc. And I know firsthand how greatly that can impact your day if you begin the morning on a bad personal note. Additionally, I believe that if we consistently indulge in negative self-talk we’re bound to be more negative overall as we go about our day.
With that, if we intentionally try to lighten the dialog in our head, learn to accept and forgive ourselves more often, and think more positive than negative, this is where the magic will happen! In fact, according to psychiatrists, when you’re experiencing a lot of internal tension and anxiety, you can actually reduce your stress by up to 50% by simply noticing your current state of mind. Instead of critizing yourself, think of ways you can help yourself in the future! With this self-awareness, you’ll be able to choose which direction your day is going to go! Plus, you’ll be able to redirect your attention to what’s truly more important! 🤗
I hope you enjoyed these 5 ways to refresh your morning routine this spring and that you found them to be practical and motivating! I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
