Since none of us will be leaving our homes anytime soon, usual date nights are going to look a little different for a while. Now that we’re quarantined at-home, we’ll just have to get extra creative with how we spend our date nights! Marlin and I have been doing regular date nights each week since we’ve been dating for the past 2 years. It’s something we look forward to at the end of each week, and we still wanted to stick to our usual weekly ritual even though we can’t go out anywhere. That’s when we decided to come with these 10 creative and fun at-home date night ideas and I thought I would share them with you as well!
If you have any other at-home date night ideas I would love to hear them!
1. Camp out in the living room
Set up a tent or some sleeping bags in the living room and cozy up with your significant other. You can watch a movie on your laptop or just tell stories. Complete the at-home date night with some indoor s’ mores made in the oven or a cast-iron skillet for a delectable way to spend the evening in.
I love this idea because it reminds me of our first date! It was late summer so the weather was still really warm in the evening and Marlin and I went to a park and set up a blanket and Bluetooth speaker. We played 50’s music and just talked the entire time. It was so simple and romantic that whenever I think of our early dates, my mind always goes back to that one.
2. Video game marathon
This is Marlin’s dream date come true and such fun at-home date idea. Spend a few hours challenging each other to video games you have at home! Not to mention, this is also a great stay at home date night idea if only one of you knows how to play video games. The video game expert (Marlin lol) can teach the other person. Learning new skills together and being able to teach each other something is a really great way to boost your bond and connection!
3. Boardgame night
Along with the last tip, why not bring back board game night as well! This is one of our favorite ways to have a date night at home. We will usually open a bottle of wine, set out a cheese board, and challenge each other to a bet. It can be any boardgame (Monopoly, Battleship, Clue, etc.) or lately we’ve been loving card games as well!
4. Movie marathon
Pick a theme, whether it’s a series, genre or actor, and host a movie marathon! Pretend like you’re at the movie theater by turning off all the lights, making a big bowl of popcorn and indulging in your favorite candy. And if you fall asleep, you can always pick up where you left off in the morning! (Some movie/TV marathon idea starters: Harry Potter, old Disney movies, Quentin Tarantino or Martin Scorsese films (our favorite!), Marvel, Twilight, Rom Coms, etc.) Lately, Marlin and I have been binge-watching Breaking Bad and I can’t believe how good that show is and how late we are to starting it!
5. Breakfast in bed
Breakfast in bed is one of my all-time favorite things ever! There’s nothing better than enjoying a cup of coffee cuddled in our mountains of blankets with the dogs. Not to mention, breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, so why not have breakfast in bed at dinnertime?!
Bring out the TV trays and whip up some pancakes, scrambled eggs and hash browns (or whatever breakfast food you like). Stay in your pajamas and watch movies while you eat your breakfast in bed! Plus, this would also be a great time for mimosas haha! I think we’re going to have to this, this weekend!
6. Workout together
Grab your gym clothes and work out together! There are lots of options for this – you can jog around your neighborhood, look up exercise videos on YouTube (there are so many to choose from!), or even do an at-home yoga session together. I’ve been trying to get Marlin to do this with me for months and now is the perfect chance!
7. Put a puzzle together
Like playing a board game, doing a puzzle together is a nice relaxing activity that helps you chill out and have a quality conversation. Pour a glass of wine and pick a puzzle you can finish that evening — something like 200-300 pieces. Honestly, I’ve never noticed how relaxing and stress-relieving doing a puzzle can actually be!

8. Pretend you’re at a drive-in movie – at home!
The drive-in is one of Marlin and I’s favorite date ideas in the spring and summer. But now that we can’t currently go to one, we decided to create one at-home! Therefore, instead of just a regular movie night, make it a little more exciting by taking it outdoors! Just take your computer outside (charge it fully first!) and create a cute little setup to pretend you’re at a drive-in movie or outdoor movie! Or if you happen to have a projector, that’s even better and you can display it in your backyard!
9. Do a DIY wine and paint night
Paint and wine places can be so fun, but also pretty pricy! Fortunately for your wallet, they are really easy to recreate at home! Buy some cheap canvases and paints, look up a painting tutorial on YouTube (here’s one for example), and paint at home together for your at-home date night! It doesn’t matter if you’re not artistic or your painting comes out looking nothing like the original, just being creative can be so fun and relaxing!
10. “Around the world” or themed date night
I saw Caitlin Covington talk about this idea on her Instagram and I love it! Basically, you pick a country that you’ve either traveled to, want to travel to, or simply have a love for their culture’s food. After you choose that country, you then make dinner together inspired by that country. It’s the perfect date idea to curb your wanderlust and travel bug since many of us aren’t able to travel right now. These were her examples:
- Mexico: Make homemade margaritas and set up your own taco, nacho or burrito bar.
- Italy: For an appetizer, have sourdough bread and olive oil with balsamic. For the main course, make homemade pasta or pizza and open a nice bottle of wine. To be even more extra, you can also play some Italian music in the background!
- France: Dine on a cheese platter and wine, or create your own charcuterie board!
- Greece: Feast on a dinner of Mediterranean appetizers like Greek salad, olives, feta, hummus, and tzatziki sauce. This is our favorite!
- Japan: Learn how to make sushi together!
Another idea that I love is having a themed date night! Choose a theme and center everything you do around it. For example, if you choose an Italian theme, you could eat spaghetti and gelato, then watch a movie like Call Me By Your Name or Life is Beautiful. Some other fun theme ideas: Mexican, Christmas (love this idea haha!), Kid’s theme, 1950’s, 1980’s (or any decade), etc.
I hope some of these were helpful!
If you have more at-home date ideas, I’d love to hear them below!
Have a beautiful day!
