Think of your weekend as the foundation to a productive, less stressful, relaxing, and more put together work week! With these 4 powerful habits to get the most out of your weekend, you will set your week off strong with a sturdy base! Feeling empowered, revitalized, productive, and happier as you go into your week on Monday morning!
1. Plan and prepare
Do you ever get to Sunday night and just wonder where all of the time went? This can also be known as the ‘Sunday Scaries.’ Or the anxiety that stricks you when the thought of returning to work pops into your mind. Sound familiar? There’s nothing to worry about – because you are not alone! A little Sunday planning can make a world of differences!
It’s no secret that many successful people use their weekend to plan and prepare for their week ahead. In fact, most of them think of their Sunday evenings as a pre-workday. That way they feel less stressed, more organized, productive, and more put together when beginning their workweek on Monday. The useful tools that many successful people sware by are to-do lists and planners. They invest a lot of their time on the weekends organizing and preplanning out their workweek and other scheduled events.
For me, I know that I would be seriously lost without my Erin Condren Life Planner! The fact that you can completely personalize and customize it on her website is amazing. Not to mention, the aesthetic of all her planners make me so excited to sit down and plan out my week every Sunday night! Maybe it’s just because they look super cute on a desk, but either way, her planners have the full package!
With that, a basic weekend schedule for me that is packed full of planning and preparing would typically look like this!
Saturday
- Make sure any homework that is due Sunday or Monday is completed
- Have upcoming blog posts for the week finalized and optimized
- Plan out my workout for the upcoming week
Sunday
- Meal prep for the week (only for Monday-Friday)
- Make a general to-do list of things I need/want to get done for the entire week ahead
- Create pins for blog posts
- Write out any prescheduled plans or events in my planner!

2. Try something new
There is something so fresh and exciting about trying a new recipe or a new workout class! And the weekend is a perfect time to do this! Either by yourself, with a friend, with your partner, or as a family. Use the weekend to your advantage and do something that you have been dying to try out! Whether it is the new coffee shop that opened in town, traveling to the hiking trail that’s an hour or so away, or trying out a cycle class for the first time. I love to use the weekend to try out a new healthy recipe or cook up a big, delicious breakfast!
It doesn’t matter what you do, it just matters that you do it! Go out and explore, switch up, and get out of your normal routine and comfort zone for a day or two. Use this weekend, and every other weekend after this, to keep it new, keep it exciting, and to do something that YOU would love to do!
3. Take a break
While the weekend is a perfect time to prepare and plan for your week ahead, it is also a great time to sit down and take a break. Like an actual real break! One with no stress, no worry, and no guilt. That way, you can go into the workweek feeling recharged, invigorated and revitalized! I used to believe that rest was considered unproductive, and I would feel guilty about being “lazy” if I even thought about taking a power nap or walking away from my work. Even when I knew that it was much needed. I’m looking back on my 15-year-old self right now just wondering who or what put that into her head!
Now, however, I highly value the importance of rest, and I look forward to my 2 pm or 3 pm power nap each day lol! Plus, it allows me to reset and be ready to take charge, work extra hard, and focus on whatever the task at hand is.
This weekend, I challenge you to find those few moments of rest! Turn off your phone for an evening. Run a relaxing bath with some soothing music, candles, and Epsom salts. Take an entire Saturday off to something that you absolutely love! In fact, go for a long drive, go away for the weekend, or even just spend the evening watching your favorite movie on the couch! Take an afternoon nap. Read or write. Take a break to rest and recharge, because your mind, heart, and soul will greatly appreciate you!
4. Treat yourself
I see you working hard all week, girl! After a long and stressful week, why not take a day to treat and pamper yourself?! Do something that will bring you joy and happiness this weekend. Even if you only spend an hour getting your nails done or getting your hair cut. With that, who doesn’t love going into the following week with a fresh new manicure or shiny, healthy hair?
Likewise, another way to treat yourself is to go out. If you like to that is! Set a night to out for drinks with your friends or a have little date night with you and your partner! Treat yourself to that delicious looking dessert on the menu, that cocktail, or that cute outfit that you saw at the mall the other day!
If your diet causes any concern about going out for food with others, not a problem! Check out this helpful post on how to still lose weight, without losing your social life. Because, I know that can be a major drawback for many, especially in your 20s!
How do you love to spend your weekends?
