It’s the new year! And with that comes many new year’s resolutions. I don’t know about you but as a personal trainer of 5 years, I witnessed A LOT of people making weight loss goals as well as daily hydration goals. This is because, most of the time, when you’re aspiring to lose weight and/or improve your health and wellness, many people start by upping their water intake. Yet, not everyone knows where to start or how to make increasing your daily H20 easier for themselves. Because I know firsthand that trying to drink more water can be a struggle! So how do you start drinking more water and making it a sustainable goal to reach? Today’s post is all about the 5 easy ways to start drinking more water each day!
1. Start by educating yourself
The first (and easiest) thing to do when trying to up your water intake is to educate yourself! There are endless benefits to drinking water including clear skin, more energy, and even enhanced weight loss. Therefore, get online and do some simple research to really strengthen the idea in your mind that drinking more water will improve your life for the better!
2. Establish your goal
Next, establish a maintainable and measurable daily water intake goal that works the best for you! A good rule of thumb is to drink about half your body weight in ounces. You may see many people caring around gallon jugs of water around the gym, and that’s totally fine!
However, carrying around an entire gallon of water (128 grams) may be intimating for many people. Especially first starting out! Therefore, aiming to get half of your body weight in ounces is a great place to start! For example, if you weigh 150 pounds, try aiming for about 75-80 ounces of water per day!
3. Sip in style!
I believe this is so important for those who are aspiring to intake more H20 throughout the day. With that, if increasing your water intake is a big goal for you, treat yourself by going out and purchases and water bottle that you know you’ll want to use! It sounds silly and extra, but trust me, it works!
Buying a cool water bottle will help to keep you motivated! Water bottles such as hydro flasks (super durable, cute, and trendy!), motivational and inspiring water bottles, (to help keep you on track all day!), and even fruit infusing bottles (delicious!) are such a fun and easy way to keep your hydration efforts interesting! Plus, you can even add pineapples, blueberries, mint, cucumber or kiwis to naturally flavor your H20!
Wellness Tip: infuse your fruit overnight for the best tasting water! I love to fill up my water bottle right before I go to bed, that way I can quickly grab it as I’m heading out the door. No more excuses or telling myself that I “don’t have time” to fill up my water bottle before work, school, etc.
4. Track your progress
Another foolproof idea to help keep you moving forward towards your goal is to track your progress! Simply find a system that will help you track how much water you’ve had throughout the day. Lucky for us, there’s a lot of awesome technology that can help us do just that. Smart water bottles like Hidrate Spark and health apps can now track our daily water intake — incredible!
Additionally, I recently heard of this app called Plant Nanny (yet, it’s actually been around for a while 😅), which helps you keep track of your water intake throughout the day. This app is adorable and really helps with the motivation part. Not to mention, it’s perfect for those plant lovers as well! The main mission of the app is to remind you to drink water regularly by taking care and watering a plant every day. In order to keep it alive and grow, you must give it water at certain periods of time. Which in return, reminds you to drink more water as well! It’s fun and carefree but it has made a huge difference in my hydration habits over the past few weeks!
5. Initiate accountability
Another helpful tip you can use when trying to increase your hydration levels is by initiating accountability for yourself. One way you can do this is by teaming up with a friend or coworker who possibly has the same goal as you do. With that, invite that other person to join in and to hold you accountable as you hold them accountable as well. For additional help, you could also set daily phone reminders to go off throughout the day to help hold you accountable and keep you on track!
