After a long and stressful week at work, I always like to treat myself to an evening full of self-care! Especially now that many of us are stuck inside due to coronavirus. Other than my blog, my main job is teaching. Therefore, I am not going to work for at least 3 weeks since every school in Michigan is currently shut down. However, I’m trying to look at it in the most positive perspective that I can. So, why not treat myself to a quiet evening alone to channel my inner spa goddess?
Although it is a scary and difficult time right now, why not use this time to spend with your loved ones or to spend time indulging in self-care and your overall wellness, and use this time at home to your advantage?! Making time for self-care nights is important! With that, here is how to have the best solo night in!
First, set the mood
Light a candle – The nice kind that promotes wellness! Splurge on a delicious, natural vegetable or soy candle, so you can breathe in a lovely aroma, rather than chemically-filled fumes. I also suggest getting candles that are made with essential oils to calm and relax you even more! These candles are currently my favorite! Especially for a much-needed spa night!
Turn on calming music – My go-to for this is any type of coffee shop music or instrumental music. Lately, I have been loving the Vitamin String Quartet Radio which you can listen to on Pandora or on Spotify. In fact, I play this every day for my students as they are quietly working and they love it! But I also love listening to it at home as well!
Brew yourself a cup of tea – As many of you probably know, I am a huge fan of peppermint tea! Peppermint tea is an excellent sleep aid and it hydrates your body. In fact, peppermint tea is essential for those who have digestive problems or if you have an upset stomach when trying to fall asleep. Also, peppermint tea contains no caffeine so it won’t keep you up all night! I mention this more in my how to create the perfect night routine post as well!
Wash away the day/week
Run the perfect self-care bath – For this, I love to use Lavender essential oils, Epsom salt, and bath bombs! First, fill up the tub and add a few drops of lavender oil for a calming scent. I have been loving baths a lot more recently than ever before! And I’m pretty sure it could be because I either add Lavender or Eucalyptus essential oils! My baths usually last around 20 minutes, and that’s perfectly okay. It creates the perfect amount of time to either read or simply close my eyes and relax. Additionally, I also love to put a hair mask in as well as I’m sitting in the bath! #winwin. Which brings me to my next point…
Spend time taking care of your hair – Currently, I have been using the Kiehl’s Olive Fruit Oil Deeply Reparative Hair Mask and I love it! First, it smells so good without being overbearing or strong, so that’s a major plus! It also hydrates my hair so well. My hair has been very dry and dull lately and I’ve seen a huge difference just from using this mask once or twice a week. It’s really made a difference in moisturizing my hair and helping bring my natural waves back. And because it’s only $25 it’s definitely worth it!
Brush, floss, and wash out your mouth – I don’t use anything special when it comes to flossing, toothpaste, and mouth wash. However, I am in love with my Burst Toothbrush! And I have it in rose gold, of course! What I love about the Burst Toothbrush is that it is made with super soft charcoal bristles to promote whiter teeth and provide up to 91% greater plaque removal vs a manual toothbrush! If you’re in the market for a new and approved toothbrush and thinking about jumping on that electric toothbrush train definitely give this toothbrush and try!
Take time to meditate or journal before bed
Journal – I’ve been journaling a lot lately and I never thought it would help as much as it has! I’ve been dealing with a lot of stress and anxiety lately, and journaling exactly what’s on my mind at the moment every single night really has worked wonders. Not only does it help me relieve any built-up stress from the day and get all of my thoughts down on paper, but it also helps me sleep way better too! There’s something about releasing all of your thoughts and getting them out of your mind that’s very therapeutic and stress-relieving.
Practice simple meditation techniques – This helps to lower stress and anxiety levels, to connect to your body and surroundings. Practice mindful breathing and simply being present. Personally, I don’t keep my phone by me or the Tv on when I do this. I prefer to either sit on the couch or in my bed with a cup of tea and just focus on the thoughts running through my head. And, all you need is 5 minutes! It doesn’t have to take a long time at all!
To make sure you get the most out of your Friday night spa-night, make sure to leave all worries at the door. Leave it behind and think of all the happy thoughts you can muster… or don’t think of anything at all (if possible lol). Fade it out with natural, calming scents, relaxing music, steamy baths, and you will manifest all of the good energy. 🙌
Gather up all of the good vibes, and just think of how incredible it feels to be alive and well. We get so caught up in our to-do lists and what’s going on in the media that we forget we need a break. Not a Facebook break or a TV break, but an actual old-fashioned relaxed session of self-care without distractions from the outside world! We all need a reset more often. Let’s all try it together at least bi-weekly. Ready, set, go! 🤗
Stay safe and have a beautiful day!
