Happy (almost) fall! Although, if you are anything like me, then September 1st is the first day of fall to you! 🙈With that, I don’t know about you, but when I think of fall I think of all things self-care and wellness! Perhaps it’s the cooler weather, the cozy sweaters, the delicious pumpkin spice lattes, I don’t know, but I love it! It’s the perfect time of year to stay inside, get cozy, and focus on inner and mental/emotional wellness. For me, I use the fall to focus on upping my wellness game and trying new, healthy techniques that me feel good about myself and about life! So with that, whether you are new to wellness or just looking for some new ideas, you have to try out my current favorite wellness trends! Trust me, girl, these are the 5 wellness trends that you’re going to be obsessed with in the fall this year!
1. Infrared Saunas
I’ve been using infrared saunas for years! And I am so happy they’re making a name for themselves in the wellness world! My favorite thing to do is sit in the sauna after an intense workout and sweat out all the toxins in my body. But, if you’re sitting here like “by why an infrared sauna??” Then definitely read on!
An infrared sauna helps to heat you from within, which allows your body to detoxify, repair your muscles, and even (possibly) help you burn fat quicker! Also, it’s perfect for the colder months since it helps to strengthen your immune system and improve sleeping habits. You can find infrared saunas at local spas and gyms, or you can even buy one for your own house! Something I will definitely be doing in the future! 😅
2. Collagen
I am a huge fan of collagen! And if you aren’t on the collagen train yet, it’s honestly super easy to start! Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body and helps give structure to our hair, skin, nails, bones, ligaments, joints and tendons in our body. Thanks to collagen, we’re better able to move, bend and stretch. Collagen is also behind helping hair shine, skin glow and nails stay strong! However, our bodies natural production of collagen begins to decline as we age. This is why many people turn to collagen supplements and their necessary amino acids (glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline) for healthy hair, skin, and nails. And of course, for stronger, more functional bones, joints, and connective tissue.
Also, I have an entire blog post that explains the benefits of collagen (including tons of healthy recipes) to get you started!!
3. Dry brushing
Unless you are new here, you already know how much I love dry brushing! In fact, I have an entire post about the benefits of dry brushing that you should totally check out afterward! In that post, I go over all of the interesting benefits that dry brushing has, along with how to begin dry brushing. But basically, before you hop in the shower, you want to use the dry brush to firmly stroke your body in an upward motion starting at your feet and moving towards your heart.
Not only is dry brushing amazing for exfoliating your skin, but also for detoxifying your body, flushing out toxins, and improving your entire lymphatic (drainage) system! I seriously LOVE dry brushing, and I’ve made it a habit to do so at least three times a week! If you are wanting to try it and jump on this wellness trend too, then here is a video tutorial to help you get started!
4. Gua Sha Stone
Dubbed “better than botox,” this little tool is going to be sweeping across the wellness nation super fast! But what is a Gua Sha Stone? It is an ancient healing technique that uses a gemstone tool to visibly rejuvenate the skin through light pulling and lifting massage motions. The stone works with the skin to support and optimize the body’s own reparative functions by promoting lymphatic drainage and calming the nervous system. Gua Sha also aids in relieving muscle tension/tightness, clearing congestion/buildup in the skin, and increasing the flow of oxygen and vital nutrients to the skin. Not to mention, soften the appearance of fine lines, sagging skin, and wrinkles!
The results are felt almost immediately! And with consistent use, this facial tool will create a significant and long-term transformation of the overall appearance of your skin! Nonetheless, you may still be wondering – “is this tool really better than botox??” Click here to find out and read up on all of the other fascinating benefits of the Gua Sha Stone!
P.S! You can save 10% using the code “CM10” on your entire order at Primally Pure! (Dry brush + Gua Sha Stone = 💛)
5. Tongue scraping
A tongue what?! I know it sounds gross and weird, but hear me out haha! A tongue scraper is an inexpensive, yet transformative, little tool that brings you so many health benefits! From a wellness perspective, the biggest benefit of a tongue scraper is that it removes excess bacteria, toxins, and food particles from your mouth that accumulates during digestion. This is waste that you want out of your body since your digestion can actually be improved when you help remove this waste.
Another benefit that many people are going to find fascinating is that tongue scraping can actually reduce your food cravings! This is because you’re using the tongue scraper to rid the tongue of any leftover food. It allows you to taste more subtle flavors in your food so that you can enjoy fruits, vegetables, and whole grains more often. When the old residue is removed from the tongue, you will be better able to taste your food. Therefore, you won’t need to eat as much since you will have gained greater satisfaction from your meal!
Lastly, tongue scraping also dramatically improves your breath! Of course, tongue scraping can not (and should not) replace brushing your teeth, but according to this 2004 study, tongue scraping was more effective than brushing at removing odor-causing bacteria. This is especially helpful for people who consume dairy products, and for those who tend to build-up mucus in their mouth, nose, and throat. Meaning it’s perfect for this time of year when the cold and flu is most common!
