As we gear up for the busy holiday travel season, I thought I’d share a few essentials I always keep with me in my carry-on. From curing boredom to freshening up your skin, these products are a must on any plane ride or road trip. So with that, these are the 5 things you should pack in your carry-on bag!
1. Satisfying snack
The small bag of pretzels and a bottle of water handed to you by a friendly flight attendant doesn’t always cut it. Therefore, I always pack my own lunch or snack. As long as it’s wrapped and a non-liquid, it can go through security. Plus, it’s certainly a cheaper alternative to buying a pre-made sandwich or salad at the airport. Not to mention, packing snacks to keep on hand all throughout the flight and my trip allows me to make healthier and more conscious decisions the entire duration of my trip!
2. Notebook & Pens
Just like a book, I always like to keep a notebook with me when I travel. In fact, my friend that went with me to France a couple of years ago told me to bring one and I was so happy that I did! It was the best thing to have in the long, overnight flight and while we were traveling by bus from city to city.
Whether to write down new ideas or even for doodling, I find it always comes in handy. Plus, this one from Amazon was too cute to pass up! What’s even better is that this notebook is hardcover and it has a slot to hold a pen so that you don’t have to worry about carrying an extra one in your pocket or risk losing it.
3. Essential toiletries
Give your final destination a good first impression by brushing your teeth and washing your face before leaving the airport. I used to think it was weird, however, after spending 10+ hours on an overnight flight, I realized just how important it is to keep a travel toothbrush & toothpaste and makeup removal wipes. Therefore, keeping a small selection of toiletries in your carry-on prevents you from having to rummage through your suitcase in public or not feeling like your best when you step off of the plane.

4. Water bottle
Drinking water when you travel is the best thing you can do for your skin and your body, so I always try and keep my hydro flask on hand, instead of relying on the plane to provide it for me. It’s incredibly durable and keeps my water cold the entire flight or long road trip. Every time I fly, I bring an empty hydro flask with me to the airport and fill it up once I pass security.
5. Headphones
When all else fails, definitely make sure you have a pair of headphones! That way you can lay back, relax, and enjoy the rest of your ride listening to your music, watching a movie, or listening to a podcast.
