I’ve always known that it’s important to change up your skincare routine with different weather/seasons, however, this Spring is the first time I’ve actually changed it up. And not in drastic ways! I like to keep my skincare routine simple, yet effective. Focusing on all areas of my body, not just my face. Along with that, I thought this would also be the perfect time to share this post since many of us are trying to find ways to better ourselves and promotes our overall wellness now that we’re stuck inside. Plus, now that the weather is getting warmer! So, why not take the time to adjust your skincare routine for the warmer weather, take a break from the makeup, and focus on promoting healthy, beautiful skin! Not to mention, you’re going to love showing off that beautiful, hydrated skin to the world once the quarantine is lifted!
Here are my 5 simple tips on how to adjust your skincare routine for the warmer months ahead!
1. Cleanse + exfoliate
Even though many of us may not be wearing as much makeup as we’re used to, it’s still essential to wash your face nightly. Dirt, oil, and bacteria can still build up on the skin and make its way into your pores. Therefore, cleansing your skin nightly and sticking to a consistent routine will only benefit you and your skin’s health!
With that, it is also important to lightly exfoliate one or two times a week. When you get rid of dead skin via exfoliation, your skin can become more sensitive, but it’s also crucial for avoiding breakouts and clogged pores. This is why I LOVE using a gentle face exfoliating face mask to help wash away and dry and dead skin. My go-to lately has been the Primally Pure clarifying mask! It’s perfect for those who are prone to acne and/or pigmentation, like myself. Plus, it even comes in a cute sample size if you’re not one to exfoliate very often!
2. Take “cooler” showers
Did you know that taking lukewarm or even chilly showers is incredibly beneficial for your skin, hair, and overall health and wellness!? And now that the weather is getting warmer, cold showers are probably wayyy more appealing now than they are in the winter months. Once spring and summer hit, it will be easier to get by without using hot water that strips the skin of natural (healthy) oils. Plus, colder showers equal energy and shiny hair, so what’s not to love!? You never know, “cooler” showers may just become the newest adjustment to your skincare routine and your self-care and wellness regime!
3. Combat + treat acne
I know for me, one major downside of sunny days and time outside is sweat. Especially if you’re like me and you workout daily, the warmer weather might cause you to sweat at the littlest movement! With that, sweat can easily build up in pores and lead to excessive oil production – which usually causes acne to follow close behind. And we’ve all been there, right? To combat and treat breakouts, try using a spot treatment or smoothing serum (p.s this one had CBD oil in it for sensitive skin!) for your face and gentle wash/treatment for your body.
Personally I have two favorites! One is inexpensive and works pretty good and the other is a little pricier but will always be my all-time favorite! The first one is the Mario Badescu A.H.A Botanical Body Wash, which I’ve briefly talked about in this favorites post. And the second one is the Is Clinical Body Complex Lotion that I use right after I get out of the shower. Both are amazing for gently cleansing/ hydrating the skin and working to combat breakouts on the body!
4. Protect your scalp
I feel like we often forget about protecting our scalp when the weather gets warmer. However, it is very important that we don’t skip this step before heading outside and enjoying the sun! Of course, a double dutch braid is really cute…until you come home and realize that you have a bright red scalp that eventually starts peeling. Not fun! So before you head out, spritz some sunblock on your part whenever you’ll be outside. Trust me, it really helps!
5. Use facial mists
If you know me, you know I absolutely love facial mists! Especially ones that are made to hydrate and fight against acne! This is why I love the Neroli Complexion Mist from Primally Pure since it boosts moisture and plumpness. Plus, it balances oil levels and combats acne with powerful antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties! Also, since many of us don’t usually have as much makeup on in the warm months, facial mists are the ideal product for a quick spritz of hydration whenever you need it. A quick tip: keep an extra bottle in your fridge for a serious refresh!
